The Kimberley Dynamiters win on the road in Fernie, 5-3

Playing on the road has been difficult for the Dynamiters this season (in fact for any Eddie Mountain Division team). But the Dynamiters over came their home sickness and beat the Fernie Ghostriders 5-3.

Game Notes

  • I unfortunately wasn't able to follow this game because I was in training, so this will be lacking in a lot of substance
  • Tyson Brouwer suited it up for his 30th game this season
  • The Dynamiters dressed 18 players, including AP's James Rota, Jacob Bromley, and Chase Leroux made his KIJHL debut (He plays for the Cranbrook Knights, has played in 23 games, with 2A and 43PIM)
  • Injuries/Scratches: Jowsey, Hancherow, Campanella, Marchi, Roy, Gordon, Hunt, Pagura
1st
The Ghostriders PIM leader, Robertson, opened the scoring (it was scored right when the penalty to Mallard expired. So... No PP Goal for you!). Buckley took exception to a slash by Fernie's Kuchler, and both of them dropped their gloves. Both were then handed game misconducts, and Kuchler got an extra for slashing. The Ghostriders took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room, and led in shots 12-10.

2nd
There were a couple of tweets about the environment there. The Fernie Free Press called it a Zoo getting rowdy, while the Dynamiters noted that there was 168,000 in attendance at the game, that has to be some sort of record (in actuality there was 780 fans).

Back to the game. Haase scored two goals at the midway point of the second to give the Dynamiters a 2-1 lead. The dynamite clutch scorer Richter added another PP goal and gave the Dynamiters a 3-1 lead. Fernie scored their 2nd, making it 3-2 just before the end of the 2nd. Kimberley led in shots 16-10.

3rd
Richter scored again on the PP. Wallace added an individual effort to make it 5-2. And then Fernie attacked. They did notch their third in an apparent pile up on Brouwer. But despite firing 16 shots at Brouwer in the 3rd, they only got the one goal. The Dynamiters handed the Ghostriders their first loss in regulation this season (and what a great time to do it, right during the playoff push). The Riders outshot Kimberley 16-7 this period.

The Dynamiters, thanks to Richter, were 2/3 on the PP.

Nitro's Player of the Game
Keenan Haase - 2G's in just over a minute seemed to change the dynamics of the game, as Fernie was then trailing.

Honorable Mentions
Coy Prevost - KIJHL Player of the Game, 3A.
Jason Richter - 2PPG
