Past Nitro: Jason Richter


Jason Richter played with the Kimberley Dynamiters from 2012-2016. During his time he set the franchise record with 104 goals. He sits 2nd in points, 7th in assists, and 4th in games played, while also captaining the 2015 KIJHL Championship team.

Richter played this past season with the University of Jamestown. In 37 games he scored 15 goals and 15 assists.

Past Nitro: Keenan Haase


Kenaan Haase was with the Kimberley Dynamiters for two seasons from 2014-16. He was a part of the 2015 KIJHL Championship team.

This past season he played with New England College. He scored seven goals and seven assists in 26 games.

Past Nitro: Eric Buckley


Eric Buckley played for the Kimberley Dynamiters from 2011-2016. Buckley's games played, goals, assists, points, and penalty minutes are in the top six all-time.

This past season he played with the University of Jamestown Jimmie's. In 33 games he posted 12 goals and 18 assists; and 93 penalty minutes.

Buckley is committed o play for the Vancouver Island University (BCIHL) for next season.

Podcast: New Players; JulyFest Celebrations



Story: Kimberley Dynamiters receive rings and unveil retro jersey during JulyFest weekend


The Kimberley Dynamiters 2017-18 team reunited during the JulyFest weekend to receive their championship rings and unveil a new retro jersey.

On Friday July 20 the team gathered at the Kimberley Golf Club to be presented their rings by head coach and general manager Derek Stuart, and also team president James Leroux.

The team celebrated as each player was called up to receive their personalized ring.

"I'm very excited about it." Kimberley born player James Rota said. "This is all we dreamed of. Winning this year was so special. It's hard to explain how happy I am that we did it with this team and this group of guys."

Captain of the team, Brett Roberts, was elated to have the team back together to celebrate one more time, saying "It feels unreal. It feels like yesterday that we were all together. The comradery between us is insane. We all love each other so much, we are brother for life."

They spent one last day together on Saturday July 21 during the JulyFest parade, joined by some of the 1978 Allen Cup winners.

The Dynamiters had been building up a pending announcement on their social media sites. "Out with the new, in with the old" they said on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

During the parade, the team unveiled an alternative retro jersey that they will be using for the upcoming season. The jersey's are will also be going on sale to the public during the season.

The Dynamiters regular season will start September 7th against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats at the Kimberley Civic Centre. Season tickets are now available, and early bird rates are available until July 31.

You can see the Nitro's in action prior to the regular season start. Main camp is August 24-26 at the Civic Centre. Then they will host the Fernie Ghostriders in an exhibition game on August 30, followed by a road exhibition game on September 1 against the Columbia Valley Rockies.

Past Nitro: Trey Doell


Trey Doell played one season, 2015-16, for the Kimberley Dynamiters.

This past season he played for the La Ronge Ice Wolves. He scored two goals and 15 assists in 54 games. He also received multiple awards and recognition from the team: Most Dedicated Player, Coach's Award, and Fan Favourite.

He has committed to play with Briercrest College (ACAC) next season.

Past Nitro: Jordan Busch


Jordan Busch played with the Kimberley Dynamiters from 2013-2016, and was an assistant captain during the 2015 KIJHL Championship season.

This season he played for Concordia University of Edmonton. He scored one goal and six assists in 26 games.

Past Nitro: Caige Sterzer


Caige Sterzer played for the Kimberley Dynamiters during the 2016-17 season.

This past season he played for the Surrey Eagles. In 45 games he scored two goals and 11 assists. He added two assists in 13 playoff games as the Eagles were eliminated in the second round.

Past Nitro: Chase Miller


Chase Miller played for the Kimberley Dynamiters during the 2016-17 season, he was the divisions rookie of the year.

This past season he played for the Calgary Mustangs (AJHL). In 60 games he scored 20 goals and 25 assists. He also added a goal and an assist in three playoff games.

Story: The Kimberley Dynamiters sign local forward Carter Spring


The Kimberley Dynamiters continue to sign local talent this summer. Most recently the Dynamiters signed Cranbrook forward Carter Spring ('02).

"Carter is an elite 16 year old with tremendous potential as a hockey player." Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. "His work ethic and determination are something we hope all the young players can emulate."

"It means a lot, it feels good." The 5'9" forward said about being signed. "It just means that I have to go to work. Work to get ice time, work every day at practice to get better, to make the team better."

Spring isn't new to the Nitro's he affiliated with the team last season playing two regular season games.

"It was a great experience. It opened my eyes for how much better I need to get."

The Spring's have a hockey lineage. Spring's Grandpa, Danny Spring, played for the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers in the World Hockey Association. His Grandpa's brother, Frank Spring, also played at a high level, playing 61 NHL games, 13 WHA games, and 251 AHL games.

His uncle, Corey Spring, also played a few games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, spending most of his time in the AHL and IHL. Lastly, his cousin, Jenna Spring, played for Yale University (NCAA Division 1).

Spring agreed that there is some expectations to do well, given his families history.

For the most part, he is just excited to be at home with his family playing hockey.

"It means I am more comfortable, and that I don't have any excuses to not play good."

Spring is now the fifth local talent that the Nitro's have signed this off season. The Dynamiters had previously signed Ryan Bennet, Jackson Bohan, Erik Delaire, and Braiden Koran.

Past Nitro: Joe Karpyshyn


Joe Karpyshyn joined the Kimberley Dynamiters late during the 2016-17 season. He had an immediate more than a point per game impact.

This past season he played for the Calgary Mustangs (AJHL). He scored 27 goals and 26 assists in 60 games. Adding another two goals and an assist in three playoff games.

Past Nitro: Korbyn Chabot


Korbyn Chabot played 71 games for the Kimberley Dynamiters across three seasons from 2015-2017.

This past season Chabot started with the Trail Smoke Eaters and then played with the Drayton Valley Thunder (AJHL). In 44 games with the Thunder he scored nine goals an 11 assists, while accumulating 89 penalty minutes.

Story: Kimberley Dynamiters acquire Mitch Fargey from the Kamloops Storm

On Thursday July 5th, the Kimberley Dynamiters announced that they had acquired defender Mitch Fargey ('00) from the Kamloops Storm for a player development fee.

"It's cool to be accepted into a team and an environment, where they have such a good winning culture." Fargey said. "It is an exciting time for me right now. I am excited to get going."

Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart was happy to acquire the defencemen.

"This trade gives us a right handed veteran defender and allows us to increase our 2000 born group from 3 to 4 players."

The Kamloops, BC native posted two goals and nine assists in 46 games last season with the Storm. He added two assists in five playoff games.

Fargey says that he grew up playing hockey with two older brothers, and that hockey has been central to his life.

He is looking forward to bringing his defensive skills to Kimberley, saying that while he considers himself an offensive defenceman, that he can kill penalties, block shots, and skate well.

"Mitch is a very good skater and defender that handles the puck well." Stuart said. "Being only 18 Mitch hasn't reached his potential at this level yet and we are happy that he'll be doing it in a Dynamiters jersey."

Even though Fargey is leaving his home town he is thrilled to come play hockey in the East Kootenay's while also taking courses at College of the Rockies.

The biggest draw for Fargey though, is the teams success, "Kimberley does well every year, I think that can give me a lot of success in the future. I know it is a great place to live. I have heard nothing but good things, I figured I would give it a shot.

"I want to win a championship here. I hope to get some opportunities to move on, if that doesn't work out, I can always come back next year."

Fargey will be in town for the Dynamiters main camp happening August 24, 25, and 26, at the Kimberley Civic Centre.

Past Nitro: Matt Wilkins


Matt Wilkins played with the Kimberley Dynamiters from 2007-2009. After going to Junior A in Alberta, he went on play in the NCAA.

This past season he played with the Reading Royals (ECHL). In 54 games he scored 20 goals and 27 assists. He added two goals and an assist in four playoff games.

Past Nitro: Scott Jacklin


Scott Jacklin played for the Kimberley Dynamiters in 2005-06 finishing his KIJHL career with the Columbia Valley Rockies.

He started this past season with the Herlev Eagles (Denmark), playing ten games, before ending up with the Brampton Beast (ECHL). In 61 games with the Beast he scored 11 goals and 16 assists.

He is committed to play with the Chamonix HC (France) this coming season.

Past Nitro: Drayson Bowman


Drayson Bowman played for the Nitro's in the 2004-05. He then went on to play for the Spokane Chiefs (WHL), and then played 180 NHL games. Last seeing NHL ice in 2014-15 with the Montreal Canadiens.

This past season he played with the Colorada Eagles (ECHL). In 65 regular season games he scored 20 goals and 35 assists. Then in the playoffs he scored five goals and six assists in 20 games as the Eagles went on to win the ECHL's Kelly Cup.
