Kimberley Dynamiters clip Beaver Valley Nitehawks 4-2 in Kootenay Conference rematch

It t'was the day after New Years and the Kimberley Civic Centre was full to watch last years Kootenay Conference final rematch between the Dynamiters and the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

Game Notes
  • Caige Sterzer and Terrell Clarricoates dressed for the game. For both it was their second game as a Nitro, and both last suited up on November 20.
  • Tyson Brouwer started against Tallon Kramer. Brouwer went undefeated in December.
1st
This period was all Kimberley. Haase got Kimberley on the board first with a wire of a shot while on the PP. Kimberley was up 1-0. That goal stood as the only marker for the period, shots were 11-5 Kimberley. Scary moment happened as the period ended and Trevor Van Steinburg was caught with a stick up high. He quickly left the ice and was looked after, and then there was a page for a doctor in the building to go to the Kimberley Dynamiters dressing room. He did return later in the game wearing a full-cage.

2nd
This period was all Beaver Valley. Yes Buckley cashed in on a 3rd or 4th rebound attempt to give Kimberley a 2-0 lead. After that it was the Nitehawks period. They got two PP's in a row, one which Coach Bancks was not pleased with as the call was made behind play and the Nitro's were on a two-on-one break the other way, which was called dead. While the Nitehawks did not cash in on the PP, they had plenty of opportunities, but Brouwer kept the door closed. The Nitehawks did get their first goal on a scramble play of their own, shortly after the PP, cutting into the lead 2-1. Which is the score for how the period ended. Nitehawks led in shots 19-11.

3rd
The first half of this period was well fought. Both teams pressing the other for control of the puck. Kimberley broke through the press as Hunt potted a PP goal. - This was Hunt's 2nd opportunity of the period, as he was robbed on an earlier 2-on-1. The Nitehawks were quick to respond, but Kimberley still had a 3-2 lead. The Nitehawks kept pressing and pulled their goalie, but Marchi sealed the game with an EN goal, giving Kimberley a 4-2 victory.

My favourite moment to watch was the two coaches chatting with each other after the game.

Tyson Brouwer - 33 saves, KIJHL Star of the Game
