Nitro’s lose to Beaver Valley, 5-1

IMG_00000676

After dominating the first period, leading 1-0, outshooting the Nitehawks 8-7, and playing Nitro’s hockey; the Nitro’s flamed out and let in 5 unanswered goals.

Richter scored the only goal for the Nitro’s on the power play. However the Nitro’s Player of the Game was Andrew Miller. He played some solid defensive shifts, and there was one shift in particular where he did not have a stick, and grinded out several Nitehawk players.

The team captain, Martin, also deserves praise and it appeared that he was being tested in the forward position and brought a lot of energy with him. He also single handedly took down the 6’5” behemoth 20 year old from Beaver Valley, McKinnon. McKinnon did slash at Martin’s back after being taken down.

Sometimes I don’t understand referee logic. Kinnon was called for hooking, and Beaver Valley’s Fuller came along and unnecessarily roughed up Kinnon. Fuller did not receive a penalty, and you could tell Fuller was fired up. He stayed out for the next shift on the power play and creamed a Nitro’s player into the boards and was called for boarding, I believe injuring Powiada. The unfortunate thing is that the injury could have been avoided had Fuller’s roughing infraction after the whistle would have been called…

As the Nitehawks lead increased, so did their attempts and taking out the Nitro’s at the knees, amazed that no one appeared to get hurt during the knee on knees.
