Kimberley Dynamiters winning streak ends at 13 after 3-1 loss to Castlegar Rebels

Kimberley Dynamiters put their winning streak to the test against, statistically speaking, their toughest opponent of the season, the Castlegar Rebels.

Game Notes
  • Richter was back in the lineup
  • Traichevich started against McLeod
1st
Kimberley hammered the net. Haase even got fancy as he tried what he did a lot of last season, dumping the puck in and using the active end boards for a lucky bounce, which he got, but couldn't capitalize. The Nitro's got themselves in penalty trouble as they were called for back-to-back penalties. However the Nitro's were successful in killing them, with their high pressure PK. The Nitro's then got two PP chances in a row, as public enemy #1 Medeiros took two penalties in a row. Kimberley could not solve the goalie McLeod. Shots were 12-7 at the end of the period, definitely indicating who was controlling the play.

2nd
The period continued at the pace of the Nitro's controlling the play. This resulted in the Rebels taking three penalties in a row. On the third PP attempt of the period, Richter fired a shot in glove side giving the Dynamiters a 1-0 lead. The crowd was ecstatic, Traichevich even more so. I am told that he is always dancing, and was doing so after the goal. Kimberley led in shots 16-6 this period, 28-13 for the game after 40 minutes. They were struggling to solve the Rebels goalie.

3rd
In summary, Kimberley controlled 50 minutes of the game. Then when on the PK a turn over at the hash marks on the half boards resulted in Medeiros (remember I said public enemy #1 earlier?) scoring. Medeiros notched his second of the game as the Dynamiters struggled to get the puck out, and once again turned it over at nearly the same spot. Kimberley then pulled the goalie with over a minute left, while the attack was successful and the Rebels rung one off the post, they still got an empty net goal and took a 3-1 lead. Just prior to the ENG, Richter cranked the crossbar.

Kimberley lost the game to a worthy opponent, and a stellar goalie, McLeod, who stole the game for the Rebels.

It was a game where "lady luck" was not on their side. And Coach Bancks said it best in the Bulletin: "In the 13-game win streak, we won some games we should have lost and [Tuesday], we lost one we should’ve won"

Dynamite Player of the Game
Jason Richter - 1G, shot off the post, and played on the PK, while potentially nursing an UBI (no-one knows).

Honorable Mentions
George Bertoia - Played a very physical game
Mitch Traichevich - While not busy, played well to keep the Nitro's in the game (can't fault him for the two turnover goals)
