The Dynamiters had an outburst in the second period scoring 2 goals off 8 shots, which was enough to win the game.
The first period started off slowly as this was the first time these two teams have ever met, as 100 Mile House is in their first season as an expansion team. The excitement came during the first intermission during the shoot the puck to win contest. The fan participating needs to get three pucks in the net out of 10. He got the first 2 shots in and needed 1 for 8, and lost concentration! It was so close.
That shooting contest rubbed off on the Nitro’s as they scored two goals a minute apart. Buckley and Becker scored, with Perpelitz assisting on both and Richter off the later. Garcia laid some heavy hits, and Levesque of the Wranglers took exception to it and cheaply took Garcia out.
The Wranglers scored in the third, but what was most intriguing was with just over a minute left the Wranglers goalie needed a “pad adjustment” which took longer to repair than the time remaining in the game, kind of a convenient timeout:
What was even more frustrating was that he was pulled just seconds later and never returned to the game. So it was all for not.
The Dynamiters had a great chance to close out the game by scoring an empty net goal, however, both Klingspohn and Buckley did a hot-potato passing play, both being overly generous trying to get the other to shoot. Neither did score, but that did not matter as the Nitro’s won the game.
The Nitro’s Player of the Game was Bryce Perpelitz. He had two assists, beautifully setting up the opening goal, and delivered hard hits and checked well.
