Game Notes
- Brody Nelson started in net against Jeff Orser.
- I wasn't at the game, so I will be piecing together the story from the Kimberley Dynamiters, Fernie Ghostriders, and Taylor Rocca's twitter feed; as well as the boxscore.
- Injuries/Scratches: Brouwer, Campanella, Roy, van Steinburg, Pagura.
1st
Fernie was quick to get on the scoreboard, just two minutes into the game. They held onto their lead, even through a Nitro's PP. However, the Dynamiters capitalized on a turn over late in the period, and Richter scored. Tying the game with 3:25 left. Fernie was super quick to respond, as they took their lead back 10 seconds later. Fernie held onto the lead, finishing the period up 2-1. Kimberley led in shots 15-8.
2nd
Fernie again was quick out of the gate, and took a 3-1 lead over the Dynamiters. A tussle broke out infront of Fernie's goalie, but only roughing penalties were dished out. And while on the PK, Buckley scored a sweet short handed goal, cutting into the Riders lead. Prevost got in on the scoring with a deflection while the Nitro's were on the PP. The period ended in a draw, 3-3. Kimberley led in shots 13-3.
3rd
With a 3-3 tie heading into the third, we were set up for an epic conclusion. Saretsky gave the Dynamiters their first lead of the game (Wahoo! *inner monologue while scrolling through tweets). There was 17 minutes left, yes, but we had reached the 7-goal plateau, and I had seen the Dynamiters play out several one goal leads. Two minutes later, Fernie scored a short-handed goal (No!) and tied the game. After six more minutes of refreshing Fernie capitalized on the PP (Oh no). As time drew down, Kimberley pulled their goalie, and Robertson finished the hat-trick with an EN (Eeek!). It was 6-4 for Fernie. Fernie scored another with seconds left, reaching THEIR 7-goal plateau. Fernie led in shots this period 11-8.
Dynamite Player of the Game
Eric Buckley - I know I wasn't there, but when Public Enemy #1 scores, that's huge.
Honourable Mentions
