Scott Niedermayer inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

Congratulations to local Cranbrook boy, Scott Niedermayer for being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame!

Scott played midget hockey in Cranbrook, and in 1988-89, he led his team with 55 goals and 92 points as an offensive defenceman. He then went on to be an all-star in the WHL, and then became an elite NHL defenceman winning the Norris Trophy, Conn Smythe, the Stanely Cup (4 times) and Olympic gold (twice).

Nitros add defenceman MacKenzie Hollis

Mack is only 6'3" tall at 17 years old. He will be even taller on those skates! and I imagine a force to reckon with.

Welcome to the East Kootenay's, and especially to Kimberley!

Marysville Dayze - Playing Carter Bancks

During the Marysville Dayze my slow-pitch team played against Carter Bancks of the Abbotsford Heart, who dawned a Calgary Flames jersey for 2 games during this past season (one of my favourite NHL teams!). When I first saw and heard his name, I couldn't believe it for two reasons. One why was someone with an NHL contract in Kimberley? Two, everyone that knew him (since he grew up in the area) treated him like he was any other person. So I really had to contain myself and not run up to him and ask for an autograph and treat him like a celebrity. So I just took to twitter:

But this lead me to check out his profile on NHL.com and the Flames have a nice video about him. And his latest after-game interview with Abbottsford shows that he is a genuine young man. I wish him all the best with his hockey career.

Local talent commits to NCAA for 2013-14

Bennett Hambrook from Kimberley, BC has committed to Hamilton College for the 2013-14 season. Hambrook did play in the KIJHL and was a part of the Nelson Leafs playoff run in 2009-10.  He has since played in the BCHL most recently with the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Hambrook said in the Kimberley Bulletin, "I'm excited to begin my collegiate career...." And I bet he is. How I would love to have played hockey (on a scholarship) and gone to college. But he isn't just focused on hockey, "post-secondary education has always been a priority of mine and I couldn't have asked for a better place to continue my schooling." Good on ya!

Congrats to you Bennett and keep up the awesome hockey work, and school work.
