The Kimberley Dynamiters were looking to sweep the series with the Fernie Ghostriders in Sparwood on Tuesday night.
It became apparent early, that things were not going to go as planned.
Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said that preparation and mindset were impacting the teams performance, "We didn't fully understand that the fourth win is always the hardest to get. Fernie is not going to give up."
The Ghostriders scored early to take their first lead of the series. They then built on their lead scoring a power play goal.
Mason Palaga responded with a power play goal for the Nitro's. But the Nitro's were outscored for the second period in a row (going back to Game Three's third period).
The Dynamiters continued to be outplayed in the second, being outshot 12-9. The 'Riders also added their third goal for a 3-1 lead. Making it three periods in a row that the Nitro's have been outscored by the 'Riders.
Hope for a sweep began to fade.
After 10 minutes of scoreless hockey in the third, James Farmer used the 2-on-1 as a decoy to roof a short handed goal. Cam Russell later tied the game with 4:32 left.
Hope restored!
"We realized it was time to get going." Stuart said, "Unfortunately we didn't realize that before the game got started, and that was the only difference. If we played the whole game like we did in the third, it would have been a different outcome."
The remainder of the third felt like overtime, as the Ghostriders did not want to lose.
With the game tied, it was headed to a 10-minute period of overtime. If nothing was solved in the 10 minutes, there would be a full intermission, and then 20-minute periods would resume.
All this game needed was one more shot. And that is exactly what happened. Mismanagement of the puck in the Nitro's end, led to an excellent opportunity for the Ghostriders. Scoring, winning, and forcing a Game Five.
"We weren't skating and playing our game until the third period. You can't play one period in the playoffs and expect to win." Stuart said.
"We got taught a lesson that things will not be handed to us, we have to earn everything. We didn't earn a victory last night, so we didn't deserve to get one."
For the Dynamiters, they can now regroud and have the comfort of playing from home against the Ghostriders.
"Just put it behind us." Staurt said. "We talked this morning that it is a good thing to face a little adversity, it will help us in the long run, it all depends on how we respond."
Game Five will be played tonight (Wednesday), and the Kimberley Civic Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Kimberley Dynamiters February Player of the Month: Derian Bamber
On Saturday February 24, the Kimberley Dynamiters presented Derian Bamber as the Jewels on Ninth February Player of the Month.
"It's definitely a huge honour." Bamber said. "A lot of guys have played really well down the stretch but it's nice to be recognized."
In February the Grand Prairie defenceman scored two goals and four assists in seven games; and has so far added two assists in the playoffs.
"He was great in February." Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. "It was great to see him develop and play the way always hoped he could. He is playing better. He is better tonight than he was two games ago. It was very deserving."
Bamber, however, was quick to credit his teammates for his success during February,
"Over the past month all of the boys have been working really hard and that's made my job easier."
The Kimberley Dynamiters take a commanding 3-0 series lead after 5-2 win in Game Three
The Kimberley Dynamiters continue to find success against the Fernie Ghostriders. The Nitro's traveled to Sparwood to play the Ghostriders in Game Three.
As has been the theme for the past two games, the Dynamiters opened the scoring. This time it was Chase Gedny on the power play. Bryce McDonald then added another power play goal, giving the Nitro's an early 2-0 lead.
The Ghostriders were getting their fair share of chances, outshooting the Nitro's 16-10 in the first period.
Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said that his team settled in more in the second period and continued to press. That was noticeable in the shot total, as the Ghostriders did not get more than eight shots in the second, and nine shots in the third.
The power play kept being an excellent source of goals for the Nitro's. Brett Roberts scored early in the second on the power play, and then Gendy added his second power play goal.
"There was no player in particular that stood out. Everyone played so well." Stuart said. "If I had to pick one group, it was our special teams."
James Farmer rounded out the second period scoring, adding a goal with 17 seconds left.
The Nitro's continue to spread out their scoring, they have 10 players averaging a point or more in the series thus far. Stuart says that this has contributed to the teams success, that each of the top three lines has been the top line in the past three games.
The Ghostrider's did fight back in the third, scoring two goals. It was the first time this series that the 'Riders had outscored the Nitro's in a period. For Stuart, and the Nitro's, they are not concerned about that. One of the 'Riders goals came on a 5-on-3, their second 5-on-3 opportunity of the game. As Stuart quickly said, "we had already put up five, we are not worried."
Cody Campbell made 31 saves, boosting his save percentage to .924, while his goals against average have remained steady at two. Gedny was named the Away Star of the game, a later recognized as being Hot in the KIJHL for scoring two goals and setting up two others.
For Stuart, he was really pleased with Braiden Koran. The affiliate player had already played a game earlier in the day with his midget team, and joined the Nitro's on an emergency basis. While he was held pointless, he played a critical role.
The Dynamiters now have a strangle hold on the series, and should expect Fernie to bring their best game on Tuesday in Sparwood.

Brett Roberts: Eddie Mountain Division Top Defenseman
"The winner of the Eddie Mountain, Regular Season, Top Defenseman was #40 Brett Roberts!" Announced during Friday February 23rd home game. "Brett made a huge difference on and off the ice while also leading his team to a first place finish in the league."
Roberts was presented with the award at centre ice by KIJHL Vice President Kathy Merkl.
"Its a huge honour," Roberts said, "I've faced a lot of adversity this year with injuries and other things so it's nice to see all the hard work pay off."
"Brett had an outstanding year, especially after Christmas." Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. "He got a lot better once he was comfortable with the team and being the captain, the leader of the team. Once that all became comfortable with him, he had a hell of a season. It was nice to see Brett rewarded for a great season in his 20 yearold year."
For Roberts, he knows his success would not have come without the team, "I think a lot of my success has come because of my teammates, our D-core was strong all year and I think we all helped each other stay focused on achieving our goals."
Brock Palmer: Eddie Mountain Division Rookie of the Year
"The winner of the Eddie Mountain, Regular Season Rookie of the Year was," came booming over the pa system at the Kimberley Civic Centre on Friday February 23rd, "Number 10, Brock Palmer! Brock has had an amazing year with the Dynamiters, finishing first for his team and 12th overall in the KIJHL with a total of 58 points!"
Palmer was presented with the award by KIJHL Vice President Kathy Merkl.
"It's awesome." Palmer said, adding that it is the great that the league is recognizing him. "It's very rewarding."
Palmer credits his success to his linemates and his teammates.
"I'm going to sound biased here," head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. "That's a no-brainer with the season he had.
"For an 18 year old to come into a league that he is unfamiliar with, and in a league with not many smaller guys have success, especially once teams get to know you, he just kept on producing points and playing well."
Palmer expressed a lot of gratitude, "I want to say thank you to everyone that helped me out," he said, "especially Derek Stuart, he has been awesome this year and has definitely helped me out."

Kimberley Dynamiters win Game Two, 8-2
After a quick start to Game One the Kimberley Dynamiters were hoping for more of the same in Game Two against the Fernie Ghostriders.
Cooper Page got the Nitro's first goal of the game 1:45 into the game. Bryce McDonald then gave the Nitro's a 2-0 lead, and this game seemed like it was on the same path as game one. However, the Ghostriders were able to put a stop to the goals in game one, and Cody Campbell made several key saves as the Nitro's finished 20 minutes of hockey with a 2-0 lead.
The Ghostriders came out quickly in the second period, halving the Nitro's lead. But 11 seconds later, Nicholas Ketola responded for the Nitro's. The Dynamiters then stacked up on power play goals from McDonald and Mason Palaga. Cam Russell would give the Nitro's their sixth goal with 1:48 left in the second. The 'Riders bookended the period with a goal, as the period ended with the Nitro's up 6-2.
In the third, Russell chased the Ghostriders goaltender from the net with the teams seventh goal. The Nitro's maintained their control on the game, and James Farmer added the icing on the cake with a power play goal from the point.
The Dynamiters entertained the 673 in attendance to an 8-2 taking a 2-0 series lead against the Ghostriders.
Campbell made 23 saves for the win, and Brock Palmer was named the Home Star of the game with 4 assists, he was eventually recognized as being Hot in the KIJHL.
"I thought the second period was our best, but I really liked all three periods. There weren't any lulls, and if there was, they ended quickly." Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said after the game.
"They were very consistent. We mentioned that last night was irrelevant if they didn't back it up again tonight. I thought our consistency, hunger, and determination for everyone. I can't find a player that wasn't contributing. It was a great team effort."
Even though it was a team effort, there was one line that impressed Stuart:
"The Page-Davies-McDonald line was outstanding tonight. They got us on the board early and were the primary force driving our team."
The Nitro's face off against the Ghostriders tonight in game three of the best of seven series in Sparwood at 7:30 p.m.

Kimberley Dynamiters win Game One, 6-2
The Kimberley Dynamiters set a goal prior to the start of the series against the Fernie Ghostriders to have an excellent opening period.
Three goals on four shots in five minutes gave the Dynamiters the excellent start they were looking for. Nicholas Ketola scored the first goal of the series. Cooper Page added one followed by Brock Palmer.
"They were prepared and ready to go." Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said of the team. "From the morning meeting the guys were focused, they were ready to go. I haven't seen us play that good of a period as a group in a long time, it at all this season."
Brandt Bertoia scored the teams fourth goal at the 7:24 mark, chasing Ghostriders' goalie Broc Merkl from the net, and Zak Larson took guard.
"We did as good as we could in the first." Stuart said, "I hate to say this, but it was almost as if the game was over after the first period, that's how good we were in the first."
The Ghostriders' did stop the bleeding as Jason Woodley got the teams first goal.
In the second period, the Nitro's coasted, and the 'Riders closed the gap. Defosse deflected a shot in that Cody Campbell didn't have a chance on to cut into the Nitro's lead, it was 4-2.
Bertoia gave the Nitro's a three goal lead with his second of the game.
Penalties then began to be a problem for the Nitro's, as they played shorthanded for the last 4:07 of the period. They were able to escape with a clean penalty kill.
"It was tough. We didn't help ourselves because we put it in cruise control. Our compete level went way down, our skating went way down, our battling for pucks went way down.
"But still, the team that is up 4-0 is getting a lot of penalties called against on them compared to the team that is down. Either way, part of it was our fault too."
In the third the two teams locked horns, for the lowest period shot total of the game.
With 2:30 left the Ghostriders' went all in and pulled their goalie. Campbell bailed the team out, and Bertoia finished the hattrick with an empty net goal.
"It was good." Bertoia said of scoring the hattrick. "It's good to turn it on at this time of year. This is the biggest part of the year. Especially against Fernie, I have never liked them and I never will. I have two buddies on that team, and during the game, I hate them."
Bertoia has now scored back-to-back hattricks against the Ghostriders.
"Bertoia was the best player again for the second time in a row against these guys." Stuart said. "He looked like he belongs in a different league. If it wasn't for Brandt, it could have been a different game."
With the 6-2 win the Nitro's take an early 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
"We got the result we wanted because we had such a great first period, we don't want to make that a habit." Stuart cautioned after the game.
Brandt Bertoia was named the Home Star of the game, and Campbell made 19 saves in the win.
Looking back at the game Bertoia said, "For the first 20 we were solid, lots of speed. That is our biggest advantage. We got away from our game once we got up three or four goals. We just played at their level for the rest of the game."
But it wasn't just Bertoia with his hattrick that stood out. For Stuart, Palmer, who is sporting a full-cage mask, also stood out. "Palmer was real good in the dirty areas. He showed a lot of toughness there, taking some hits, going to the front of the net, and making plays on the wall."
While Roberts impressed defensively. "On the back end, Roberts was probably our best defenceman tonight."
The two teams face off again on Saturday at 7:30 at the Kimberley Civic Centre followed up with game three Sunday in Sparwood.

"They are the fastest two forwards on our team, in my opinion. They can fly. All you have to do is get to the net and puckes will bounce your way. I couldn't ask for better linemates.

Playoff Preview Story: Kimberley Dynamiters vs Fernie Ghostriders
For the fifth year in a row, arguably the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League's greatest rivalry, is happening. The Kimberley Dynamiters and Fernie Ghostriders will battle eachother in a best of seven series to advance to the Eddie Mountain Division Finals.
The Dynamiters have been winners of the past four match ups, needing five or six games to eliminate the Ghostriders. The 'Riders last won a series against the Dynamiters in 2012, needing seven games.
The Nitro's have also won all eight games this season against the Ghostriders, outscoring the 'Riders 39-22.
But if there is one stat that provides the 'Riders with hope, it is that at the Kimberley Civic Centre they have only lost by one goal in each game, including one overtime game.
Ghostriders head coach and general manager Craig Mohr, chuckled and said, "it's bizarre! We have played really well in Kimbo this year. It is what it is. We can feel good going into the first two games because we have played well there."
Whereas, Nitro's head coach and general manager Derek Stuart responded with "really?" as he was not aware of and couldn't explain the stat, but added,
"Playoffs are a different season, but at the same time it's the same two teams with the same players. Based on the last eight times we have played Fernie, our team is extremely confident heading into the series."
The Ghostriders have truly only played five home games this season
Road Warriors: Even
Another area of closeness between the two teams is special teams. When all 47 games are considered, the Nitro's power play is 22.0% and the 'Riders 17.51%. There is even greater difference in the penalty kill, with the 'Riders last at 73.68% and the Nitro's fourth with 87.75%. However, in just the eight games, the special teams haven't been a huge differentiating factor with the Nitro's penalty kill at 78.05% and the 'Riders at 72.22%.
Special Teams: Even
Where the Dynamiters get their edge is in shots. Goaltender Broc Merkl for the 'Riders has been outstanding, but he has faced 331 shots in 360 minutes, nearly a shot per minute. With that edge, the Nitro's have been able to wear down their opponent. The Dynamiters need to keep that pace.
For Kimberley, they have the winningest goalie in the KIJHL this season, Cody Campbell, posting 25 wins, protecting the net. Not to mention a very experienced defensive core.
Goaltending and Defense: Kimberley
Up front the Ghostriders have relied heavily on Mitch Titus to provide offense. Their captain is seventh in league scoring with 64 points. When healthy Titus, Brendan Nemes, and Keelan Saworski form a deadly trio.
For the Dynamiters, they have relied on depth to down the 'Riders with seven different players being named the star of the game over the eight games. It's also youth that leads the offensive punch. Brock Palmer and Cam Russell lead the way while Matt Davies, James Farmer and Brandt Bertoia round out the teams top five scoring.
Farmer has had statistical success against the 'Riders posting five goals and 13 points. Bertoia has been clutch with three power play goals, a short handed goal, and two game winners.
Offence: Kimberley
For Ghostriders Mohr, he is excited for another matchup between these two teams.
"It will be fun. I think it is going to be a hard nosed, hard fought, gritty series. When you put these two teams against each other, the rivalry kicks in, and it makes for exciting, fun and tough, hockey."
As for Stuart, this is what he said to expect in the series, "We need to have a good start on Friday night in the first period. We definitely need to send them a message that it is the playoffs now. If they thought the regular season was tough, the playoffs are going to be a whole new ball game."
"We want to make it difficult for them to get back in the game after the first period. It is a short term goal of ours to make sure the first period is excellent."
Prediction: Kimberley wins in five
The series starts Friday at the Kimberley Civic Centre with the puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
Match Sticks: Here is the recent history of the Kimberley vs Fernie series:

KIJHL Playoff Predictions with February Power Rankings
The final Power Rankings of the season.
It's also where I remove emotion and just use numbers to predict the KIJHL finals and winner. I did a post back in 2014 which showed that the best predictors of the league champion - 1st overall and 1st in power rankings - if a team had both they were very likely to win the KIJHL championship.
With that in mind, here is the Power Rankings for the seasons end. (Keep in mind, the difference is now related to standing in the league, a + means the team is performing better than their record suggests, and - means the opposite)
You will notice that the Creston Valley Thunder Cats (a team I picked to be last in the Eddie Mountain Division) are currently #1 in the Power Rankings and have a difference of +4, this means the team is performing better than their record suggests. The Grand Forks Border Bruins are also performing better than their record suggests.
The Summerland Steam, Kamloops Storm and Princeton Posse are all -3, they have some room for growth.
PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS
I already joined a discussion in the Twitterverse saying that I would like to see a Kelowna Chiefs vs Kimberley Dynamiters in the finals, that's my heart.
Removing all emotion, the Creston Valley Thunder Cats are the top power ranked team, so that puts them in the final against the Osoyoos Coyotes (the top Power Ranked team in the Okanagan Shuswap Conference).
In a weird way, if/when Creston Valley and Kimberley meet in the Eddie Mountain Division Finals, that is an "unofficial" battle of the beasts - top power ranked vs top standings.
But let's go through and pick a Conference and Division winner:
Division Winners: Creston Valley Thunder Cats, Nelson Leafs, Osoyoos Coyotes, Revelstoke Grizzlies
Conference Winners: Creston Valley Thunder Cats, Osoyoos Coyotes
League Champs: Creston Valley Thunder Cats
But let's also look at some teams that may surprise:
Kelowna Chiefs They are 7th in the standings and 4th in power rankings, which means they have been playing better and could make some noise.
Beaver Valley Nitehawks Can you really call the Nitehawks a dark horse team? Well, this year we can since they were 3rd in their division. They are also power ranked the 2nd best in their division.
Kimberley Dynamiters as a dark horse? It's a stretch. As noted above, the Creston Valley Thunder Cats are the #1 power ranked team, and the Nitro's #2 power ranked team and #1 in the standings, they are the most likely team to stop Creston from their triple winnings.

Now, these are just predictions using stats, looking at the patterns teams have built during the regular season. The playoffs are different season, and stats don't include one major factor: human effect. Anything can legitimately happen.

Observation: #1 Star players are subjective, they impressed whoever did the scoresheet/webcast/boxscore. With that in mind, Fernie shows that they have two primary players carrying their team again the Nitro's: Broc Merkl and Mitch Titus. Whereas the Nitro's are a mixed bag of whoever is starring that game. Fun Fact: Brant Mack is a former Nitro and stood out with his short handed goal against his former team.

KIJHL game preview
Last item! This is from the KIJHL's Game Preview option on the boxscore before a game starts
Observation: It is interesting how close the games have been in Kimberley, all one goal games including an OT win for the Nitro's. But the Nitro's have outscored Fernie by 13 in Sparwood.

Kimberley Dynamiters finish season on a high note, going undefeated in February and clinching the KIJHL
The Kimberley Dynamiters 2017-18 regular season came to a conclusion this past weekend.
On Friday, the Dynamiters traveled to Invermere to play the Columbia Valley Rockies.
After a scoreless first period, the Rockies opened the scoring at the midway point of the second.
"[The Rockies] came out hard and carried the play." Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. "We weathered the storm, as they say, and Campbell made some great saves to keep us in it. They did get one by us, but we didn't let that phase us."
The unphased Nitro's answered back with a power play goal scored by Mason Palaga.
"We just continued to play our hockey." Stuart said. "Even when you play good, there are going to be some lull's and where things don't go your way.
"We just kept playing the way we have been playing for the last month and a bit. We told the players if you keep doing this, you will get rewarded."
The Nitro's efforts were definitely rewarded in the third, scoring three goals in two minutes in the later half of the period. Derian Bamber scored, then century-an James Farmer scored 18 second later. Chase Gedny added the teams fourth goal.
The Nitro's won the game 4-1, and Cody Campbell, the Away Star of the game, made 29 saves for the win.
It was Gedny's first game back after injury, and he had a goal and two assists.
"Chase was really good. He is a guy who knows where to go." Staurt said. "When he gets into that spot and gets the puck on his stick he usually wins that battle with the goaltender, and he did again in his first game back."
Another player that stood out Friday for Stuart was defencemen Bamber, "He was excellent on defence. Him and Roberts were good together.
"Bamber was probably the guy that was playing as good as we have seen him all season. He was rewarded as well. The way he skating and his physicality, if there was one player who stuck out it was Bamber."
With the win, the Dynamiters clinched the KIJHL regular season title. It was one of the teams goals that they made at the Christmas break.
"To clinch the division and the conference last weekend, and then to do the league in the next game just gives our guys the reassurance that when they set goals they can achieve them."
The Nitro's have made well on five of their six goals: number of wins at home, number of wins on the road, clinch the Eddie Mountain Division, clinch the Kootenay Conference, and clinch the KIJHL.
"We are five for five on our goals after Christmas, there is one left. It will take a while to attain, but hopefully we can get there down the road. It's to win the whole league."
After taking the regular season title, the Nitro's headed the opposite direction from Invermere to play the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in the final game of the regular season.
The Dynamiters were without captain Brett Roberts and starting goaltender Cody Campbell. Adam Andersen started, which Stuart said was going to happen any way. Without the captain, local player Lucas Purdy was given the 'C'
"He is a third year guy, and he is a guy in our leadership group." Stuart said "Very easily, along with a couple others that don't have letters, could be a guy that has a letter. He has been working hard lately. It was a thank you for all the hard work for the year to give him the 'C' in the last game."
League leading scorer Liam Plunkett opened the scoring, banging home a rebound, and would hold onto the one goal lead going into the second period.
Farmer was awarded a penalty shot, after it was concluded that a Cats player closed their hand on the puck in the crease area. Farmer glided in and made it look easy, tying the game at one.
In the third Cam Russell, the eventual Away Star of the game, scored an unassisted short handed goal to give the Dynamiters a 2-1 lead.
"Russell stood out because of the short handed goal." Stuart said, "it was a phenomenal individual effort."
"I don't think that there was one guy that stood out in Creston. I think everyone came together and played Nitro's hockey.
"We dedicated the game to the 20 year-olds on our team before hand. We said we were going to do whatever we can to get a victory for them. As a group, overall, it was great team effort."
And as fate would have it, 20 year-old Nicholas "Captain America" Ketola scored with just under four minutes left to give the Nitro's a 3-1 lead.
The Cats would half the lead, but it was too little to late, as Andersen stopped 24 of 26 shots for his 12th win of the season.
"Adam was excellent. He was great. The last four periods we have played there he has been outstanding. He has turned into, for us, a 1B type of goaltender instead of a backup. We are not afraid to put Adam in whatsoever, he has been fantastic."
With the 3-2 win, the Nitro's finished the season going undefeated in February, winning their past nine in a row, and posting a 38-7-1-1 record for the season. The .830 win percentage is the best the Dynamiters have ever posted in the KIJHL.
"We are proud of the players, not just for attaining their goals, but being able to have one of the best, if not the best season, winning percentage wise, in Dynamiters history." Stuart said. "It is very telling of the team that we have. We are very excited for the playoffs."
The Dynamiters now prepare for their opening round of the playoffs Friday against the Fernie Ghostriders.

Ranking the KIJHL Goaltenders
Every year I try to do a goaltender ranking, similar to the clutch scorers.
To be consistent, I am looking at a goalies win percentage, save percentage and goals against average. I then rank them in order, and the goalie in 1st place receives 20 points, the goalie in 2nd receives 19, and so on until the 20th placed goalie receives 1 point.
This year, if I remember correctly, is the first year that a goalkeeper is number one in every category. Well done Caiden Kreitz. However, Kreitz, has just played the bare minimum of games: six, but those six games have been statistically impressive.
The Nelson Leafs have Kreitz #1 in the rankings and Williams as #2.
Being a Nitro fan, our goalies sit #4 and #15.
Here is the full list:

The Kimberley Dynamiters clinch the Eddie Mountain Division and Kootenay Conference
The Kimberley Dynamiters had a busy weekend as they clinched their division, and the conference, as they won all three weekend games.
On Friday the Dynamiters hosted their last home game of the regular season against the fifth place Golden Rockets. It was also fan appreciation night.
The Rockets goaltender, Colton Iwaschuk, came to put on a performance. He received support when the Rockets scored first six minutes into the second period.
By the end of the second period, the Nitro's had fired 37 shots on net in 40 minutes, and had taken over the lead with goals from Nicholas Ketola and Brock Palmer.
With the game dying down, Cam Russell gave the Nitro's a 3-1 lead as he scored an empty net goal, which was also their 54th shot on net.
Cody Campbell made 17 saves for the win, and Devon Langelaar was named the Home Star of the game with one assist.
The Nitro's dressed three affiliate players on Friday: Braiden Koran, Cam Reid, and Carter Spring.
"Reid was good, really good." head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. "He has a little bit of work to do without the puck at this level, but that is to be expected, he is only 15 years old; playing his first game in front of family and friends. I thought he did excellent job. He is smart with the puck, he made smart decisions. For a 15 year old it was impressive to see."
Stuart said the following about Spring, "He got injured on Friday, he got a skate cut on his leg. He will be okay. He has been great in the two games he has played. He works hard and is really smart. We have had him out to our practices and he picks up the drills quickly. He is another guy we are excited to get to our camp next year."
Lastly, Koran, "out of all our affiliates, Koran is probably the most ready to jump in and play and contribute." Stuart said, "When we let him go back we just didn't have the quality ice-time for him. He has shown every time he has come up that he is capable of playing at this level. He did very well on Friday again."
Looking back at the game, Stuart felt there was one area of weakness, capitalizing on opportunities.
"We talked about getting more pucks, not just at the net but on the net. Part of the problem was that the guys were listening a little too well, and were just trying to hit the net.
"We have the skill and ability to pick corners, instead of just hit the net. There are times when you want to hit the net, and there are times when you want to focus on picking the corners and holes."
As for the fan appreciation gifts, the 55" Samsung TV was won by Golden Rockets assistant coach Austin Pultz, and Calgary Flames ticket package went to Eli Watkins
On Saturday the Nitro's headed north on Highway 95 to Golden.
After the day before's close game, the Nitro's stormed out scoring four goals in 20 minutes on 21 shots. Russell scored two, while Brandt Bertoia, and Nicholas Graham added the other two.
The Nitro's kept on pressing. Bertoia scored his second of the game, followed up by a short handed goal by Matt Davies.
Russell would then score his hat-trick goal in the third, and Bertoia would do the same after the Rockets responded.
"The teams energy and of course my line mates were flying." Russell, said crediting who deserved recognition for his hat-trick.
"It was a great feeling to get my first career KI hattrick." Bertoia said. "I thought our whole line played exceedingly well, and props to Cam who also got his first hattrick too! A special night for both of us."
James Farmer and Graham would round out the scoring as the Nitro's blasted the Rockets 10-1.
"We discussed and addressed being somewhat lazy going for rebounds." Staurt said, "On Saturday, the urgency to score and to make sure we were bearing down, shooting pucks hard, and making sure to put the puck in the back of the net on rebounds."
Adam Andersen made 19 saves in the win, and Russell was named the Away Star of the game with three goals and two assists.
"It’s always nice to contribute to the teams success with points," Russell said, "so many players on our team have been contributing consistently it really shows our depth."
To round out the three game weekend, the Nitro's traveled east on Highway 3 to Sparwood to faceoff against the Fernie Ghostriders, their first round opponent.
The goal of the game, send a message about the playoffs.
"We were trying to eliminate any hope that they may have, that was addressed before the game." Stuart said. "I think if Fernie were to win that game, they would have had more hope going into the playoffs. Saying that, the playoffs is a whole different season."
Stuart was finally behind the bench after missing games due to suspension and the birth of his, Burke.
"It is obviously one of the best feelings to see the birth of your child." Stuart said, "on a selfish note I was missing it, I was very happy to be back with the guys on the bench and contribute to our success."
Kimberley sent a message early to the 'Riders as Bertoia and Cooper Page opened the scoring.
The Ghostriders' responded back in the second, cutting the Nitro's lead in half. But Bertoia quickly responded, along with Farmer - chipping in his 101st point in the KIJHL. His 100th point was assisting on Bertoia's goal.
"It felt good getting 100," Farmer said after the game, "it had taken some pressure off for sure."
"It was one of the loudest cheers for a goal we have had in sometime." Stuart recalled, "It was a beautiful assist that he made for his 100th point. Farmer-esque."
Things also got a little heated between the two teams after a hit from behind call.
"Risdon just followed suit from one of our leaders a few weeks ago. One of our players got hit from behind, and Risdon took exception to that," said Stuart, "It is part of our team toughness. We are not going to put up with any kind of that stuff. Everyone is sticking up for everyone."
The two teams would eventually have 98 minutes worth of penalties and five game misconducts handed out.
In the third, the Nitro's kept scoring in pairs. Ketola made it 5-1, and then Bertoia scored his second hat-trick in a row to make it 6-1. The 'Riders would score a little too late, to make the final score 6-2.
"Scoring a hattrick against Fernie was definitely an even better feeling because it helped send a message about what's to come in the first round in playoffs." Bertoia shared.
Campbell turned aside 27 of the 29 shots, while Farmer was named the Away Star of the game with four points, his highest output this season.
"I try and play every opponent the same way," Farmer said as he brought his A+ game against Fernie, "but we all know we have to play that much harder when we play a difficult opponent if we want to win those games."
Reviewing the game, Stuart was very pleased with how the team did.
"The guys have been rolling the past few weeks." Stuart said, "really focusing on playing our game and our style of hockey no matter who the opponent is."
"It was our best game from start to finish in a long time. We were solid in all areas of the game and really controlled most of the game last night."
Looking back on the weekend, Russell was a stand out player, along with his linemates Bertoia and Ketola. Russell (4G, 4A) and Bertoia (6G, 2A) each had eight points, while Ketola (2G, 2A) had four.
"I couldn't ask for more than helping the team getting a hot streak heading into playoffs." Bertoia said. "Clinching division and conference in the same weekend is exactly what we needed to gain confidence heading into next weekend, to which we aim to clinch the league."
"It just gives us a little more drive to push for the next goal," Russell said, and then added, "we are going to come in to next weekend flying."
In both Saturday and Sunday's game the Nitro's played with 16 skaters due to injuries and suspensions.
"The excellent physical condition our guys are in along with team depth has started to show in games," Stuart said, "it is a big reason we are controlling games of late"
With the three wins, the Dynamiters clinched first place in the Eddie Mountain on Friday, and first place in the Kootenay Conference on Sunday.
"I like how our team is rolling right now. I am proud of the guys, one of our goals was to clinch the division, and we did that Friday. Another goal was to clinch the conference and we did that Sunday. We have one more team goal to take care of the next couple of games."
The Dynamiters take their seven game winning streak to the road this coming weekend to finish off the regular season. Friday they will be in Invermere to play the Columbia Valley Rockies, and then Saturday in Creston to play the Thunder Cats.

The Kimberley Dynamiters recognize longtime volunteer Anita Haney
The following was read out during the on-ice presentation:
"The Kimberley Dynamiters would like to take this time to honour long time volunteer Anita Haney. She started volunteering with Kimberley Minor Hockey in 1980 where she ran the concession for about 27 years, along with being the Ticket Booth Coordinator for the last 25 years with the Dynamiters. During most of that time, she also sat on the Kimberley Dynamiters Board of Directors. Later this year, Anita and her husband Merv hope to move to Manitoba to be closer to their family.
"The Kimberley Dynamiters would like to take this opportunity to thank Anita for all her years of hard work and dedication she has put in for our organization. On behalf of the Board of Directors and Kimberley Dynamiters, we'd like to present Anita with a token of appreciation and wish Anita and Merv all the best."
