The Kimberley Dynamiters continue to sign local talent this summer. Most recently the Dynamiters signed Cranbrook forward Carter Spring ('02).
"Carter is an elite 16 year old with tremendous potential as a hockey player." Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. "His work ethic and determination are something we hope all the young players can emulate."
"It means a lot, it feels good." The 5'9" forward said about being signed. "It just means that I have to go to work. Work to get ice time, work every day at practice to get better, to make the team better."
Spring isn't new to the Nitro's he affiliated with the team last season playing two regular season games.
"It was a great experience. It opened my eyes for how much better I need to get."
The Spring's have a hockey lineage. Spring's Grandpa, Danny Spring, played for the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers in the World Hockey Association. His Grandpa's brother, Frank Spring, also played at a high level, playing 61 NHL games, 13 WHA games, and 251 AHL games.
His uncle, Corey Spring, also played a few games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, spending most of his time in the AHL and IHL. Lastly, his cousin, Jenna Spring, played for Yale University (NCAA Division 1).
Spring agreed that there is some expectations to do well, given his families history.
For the most part, he is just excited to be at home with his family playing hockey.
"It means I am more comfortable, and that I don't have any excuses to not play good."
Spring is now the fifth local talent that the Nitro's have signed this off season. The Dynamiters had previously signed Ryan Bennet, Jackson Bohan, Erik Delaire, and Braiden Koran.
