On Thursday July 5th, the Kimberley Dynamiters announced that they had acquired defender Mitch Fargey ('00) from the Kamloops Storm for a player development fee.
"It's cool to be accepted into a team and an environment, where they have such a good winning culture." Fargey said. "It is an exciting time for me right now. I am excited to get going."
Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart was happy to acquire the defencemen.
"This trade gives us a right handed veteran defender and allows us to increase our 2000 born group from 3 to 4 players."
The Kamloops, BC native posted two goals and nine assists in 46 games last season with the Storm. He added two assists in five playoff games.
Fargey says that he grew up playing hockey with two older brothers, and that hockey has been central to his life.
He is looking forward to bringing his defensive skills to Kimberley, saying that while he considers himself an offensive defenceman, that he can kill penalties, block shots, and skate well.
"Mitch is a very good skater and defender that handles the puck well." Stuart said. "Being only 18 Mitch hasn't reached his potential at this level yet and we are happy that he'll be doing it in a Dynamiters jersey."
Even though Fargey is leaving his home town he is thrilled to come play hockey in the East Kootenay's while also taking courses at College of the Rockies.
The biggest draw for Fargey though, is the teams success, "Kimberley does well every year, I think that can give me a lot of success in the future. I know it is a great place to live. I have heard nothing but good things, I figured I would give it a shot.
"I want to win a championship here. I hope to get some opportunities to move on, if that doesn't work out, I can always come back next year."
Fargey will be in town for the Dynamiters main camp happening August 24, 25, and 26, at the Kimberley Civic Centre.
